When I make a full batch (1 box each of washing soda, borax, baking soda - caveat: I buy that huge bag at Costco, so just pull out about 13 ounces - and three bars of various scents of Dr Bronner's which varies according to what smells great together when I'm at the store), it makes a huge amount. We use 2 tablespoons per load, plus whatever needs a bit directly on stains (wet, sprinkle, rub). Three adults who garden and have jobs that are hard on clothes, this lasts us almost a year. Less than $20 for the whole works. We also use plain white vinegar (again, the big jug from Costco) in both the bleach and rinse dispensers, and everything comes out clean. I hang mine out, the other two dry theirs in the machine, all very happy with the results. We have given away samples to friends and several of them have made the change, too. We're on a septic system, but the laundry water goes out to the ground, so it is important for us not to use chemicals, although we are aware there is some doubt about how safe Borax is....no issues so far, and we have seen lots of aquatic life in and around the gray water area. Frogs seem to really, like it, which makes the chickens happy.... We'll never go back to store-bought chemically enhanced product!Happily Homemadehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14850640653435901200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7598288805887256700.post-57355863146772887802013-10-16T17:31:42.082-06:002013-10-16T17:31:42.082-06:00I've tried this recipe and it worked great! Here's one example... http://www.mnn.com/your-home/at-home/blogs/avoid-borax-in-your-green-cleaning-productsAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07712379870147739558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7598288805887256700.post-66115949472977196192010-09-03T23:16:48.126-06:002010-09-03T23:16:48.126-06:00@Nisha - I've actually been using this mixture...@Nisha - I've actually been using this mixture for the last month or so and I love it. Works great.

@Miss Sandra - I'm so glad you commented! I've been thinking of using Dr. Bronner's liquid castile soap and now I'm convinced! I'm going to try it in my next batch. And no borax? Hmmmmm...interesting. Thanks for the info!Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08213514826661790158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7598288805887256700.post-43231334620931901422010-09-03T22:54:16.014-06:002010-09-03T22:54:16.014-06:00Hi there,

No need to and it helps bring cost down even more. Also I don't use the bar of soap, I use 60mls of liquid castile and mix in blender. It's wonderful stuff. I have been using it for months now and won't turn back. I use it in our frontloader. Sometimes I add 20 drops of Lavender essential oil but it doesn't need it. I almost always hang out washing on the line out in the sun. Smells delicious when you bring it in. Have enjoyed visiting your blog. Bless you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7598288805887256700.post-68184317587552565672010-09-03T17:23:50.968-06:002010-09-03T17:23:50.968-06:00I'm SO glad you tested this out! Give us an update after you've used it for a few loads.Nisha https://www.blogger.com/profile/14177523450388267730noreply@blogger.com
